The chemist Frantz Heinrich Müller founded the Royal Copenhagen porcelain company in 1775. It began under the protection of the widowed Queen of Denmark, Juliane Marie. Müller was granted a monopoly on porcelain for 50 years to establish the industry. The factory logo is simple and recognizable: a crown astride three blue waves. These waves represent the seas of Denmark. In 2012, the company was sold to the Finnish company Fiskars.
